About Us
At Okoboji Trading Company, our roots run deep in both community and country.
Our family began homesteading in the Little Spirit and Grover’s Lake areas in the 1860s. Today, our original family farm is part of Grover’s Lake Wildlife Area and Koppen’s Prairie — named after my grandmother’s maiden name. My Eagle Scout project, two large cedar plantations, still provides habitat at the entrance to Grover’s Lake and near Koppen’s Prairie, continuing our family’s legacy of stewardship.
On my mother’s side, my grandfather relocated our family to the area after selling their farm near Graettinger, Iowa, and later served as the water superintendent for the City of Okoboji. Growing up at their home on Smith’s Bay gave me a lifelong appreciation for the natural beauty and resources of this community.
When forming this company, my goal was simple: combine our love for this area with a deep respect for our country and our veterans. My father, actively involved in the business, is an Army veteran, and my son, one of our owners, proudly serves as an active-duty Airman. I returned home to pursue a vision of building a company grounded in community, patriotism, and craftsmanship.
As a woodworking and laser engraving company, we combine CNC precision with the limitless creative potential of two AP Lazer machines to produce a wide variety of custom and signature products. Whether it’s a statement piece that hangs on your family’s wall for generations or a simple engraved beverage cup, we strive to create items that evoke pride, nostalgia, and meaning.
We are proud supporters of organizations such as Wounded Warrior Project, Tunnels to Towers, Stronghold Rescue & Relief, Service6, and several local community initiatives.
At O.T.C., whether you choose one of our handcrafted signature items or bring us a personal vision, we are committed to delivering quality craftsmanship you’ll be proud to display in your home. Share your idea with us — and let us bring it to life.
